Wired Lab Open Day 31st October 2009

Well, the wired lab open day was a great success and credit must go to Sarah Last and Dave Burraston for their tireless commitment to fostering a sense of community around the wired lab project. Well done guys. Thanks also to all who made the trek. I’m sure everyone had a rewarding experience. It was great to have Alan back on board. His performances with Garry Bradbury and Dave Noyze were inspirational as always. It was also a treat to hear Oren Ambarchi working with the wires again. His sensit… Continue

Wired Lab Residency #3 26.08 - 01.09 2009-09-03

Another wonderful week spent at the Wired Lab! Thanks, as always, to Dave and Sarah for their warmth and flawless hospitality as well as their enthusiasm and insight into what is a really substantial and important project in Australian sound.

Discussions with David Burraston on the nature of cellular automata and the observation of complex and chaotic behaviour generated from relatively simple rule states provide a platform from which to view the wire as a simple instrument capable of gen… Continue

First Residency Complete!

This is just a short post reporting on my first Wired Lab residency which ran from 13th-19th April. It was a real pleasure to see the first stages of this incredible instrument being designed from the sinking of the fence posts to the first unbelievable stereo recordings. The instrument itself involves over a kilometer of tensioned wires and presents so many possibilities for mic choice and placement that one is in danger of suffering from option fatigue. I left the residency with over 15 hours… Continue
