W I R E D Lab

this is a beautiful project, and given my recent five year stint, living in regional new south wales and working across regional communities, this is a creative way of addressing what people do on and with their land.

perhaps this sound generating and harvesting (sound farming practice) will contibute to sustainable futures.

yeh miss M... i too have often pondered the possibility of 'harvesting' sonic energy as a clean resource... hmmmmm..... can feel a stint of googling coming on.
i had a lovely chat with john the fencing contractor today : he reckons he now listens to the wire/fence sounds in a different way ... previously he didn't take much notice of singing wires, even though he could hear them and knew of various ways to make sounds with the wires... post installation he reckons he is "...really hearing" them all the time
:-)

Funny thing about listening to the wires is it made me appreciate that frequencies are cycles. It's like Robin said in his talk the other week, thinking about musical notes as frequencies opens up new ways of thinking about them. (Like emphasising different notes through EQing different frequencies in a sound.)

Thing is, after listening to the wires where I'm sitting atop a hill wearing headphones and grooving along, I come home and find myself grooving along to the sound of the fridge. The art of noise indeed :)

i enjoyed the melodic breakdown of a fluroescent tubing last week in a meeting. i really was a lovely high frequency 'ting'.

I lived the first 10 years of my life on King Island - right in the path of the roaring forties. One of my childhood memories is of the sound of the wind blowing through fences and telephone wires and making things slap against other things. Looking forward to hearing more about these projects.
